Crash Course: Picture Book
Instructor: Laurel Snyder
Picture books are different from any other kind of writing, because picture books can be almost anything! Check the shelves of the nearest bookstore, and you'll find quiet lilting bedtime poems, informative biographies, hilarious character-driven stories, and subversive meta-fiction. So where do you begin?
In this class we'll learn about some of the basic picture book forms. We'll talk craft and canon, poetry and fiction, dos and don't. We'll work on some in-class writing, play and read, and at the end of our day, I'll reserve time for a publishing Q&A. A chance to ask all your questions about query-writing and manuscript formatting, agents and editors.
Class limit is 20.
Biography: Laurel Snyder is the author, most recently, of Orphan Island (which was longlisted for the National Book Award in 2017), and the Geisel Award-winning Charlie and Mouse, a chapter book series for early readers.
