Poetry and Prose: Unleashing Your Story with Melodie Rodgers

Do you have the desire to unleash a story but not sure where to begin, or how? Has your writing project collected dust over the years and you hope to dive back in? Creative writing is one of the most exhilarating ways to express yourself, and you're never too old or too young to unleash a story. Come on in. The water's fine. This day-long workshop is an introduction to the pleasures of the creative writing process. Participants will benefit from in-depth readings and constructive critical support in a workshop that fosters a community of writers. We will explore writing fiction and poetry, engage in writing exercises, and share our work.

- Integrate criticism into their own work
- Read with a writer's sensibility
- Compose original stories and poems
- Craft a poetic line
- Utilize metaphors and other types of figurative language
- Discuss poetry and prose with the language of the discipline
The workshop is open to writers of all levels.
Class Limit is 20.

Biography: Melodie J. Rodgers has published poetry and fiction with G.R.I.T.S. - Girls Raised In the South: An Anthology of Southern Queer Womyns' Voices and Their Allies, The Eckleburg Review, Council on International Educational Exchange of Brazil, The Tower, Labrys Atlanta Magazine, Stu Magazine Arizona, The Underground, and many others. She has an MFA in Creative Writing from Queens University of Charlotte Latin American program. Presently, Melodie is a professor of Creative Writing and Professional Development at Oglethorpe University and serves as the Artistic Director for Indigo Pages Writing Retreat in Treasure Beach, Jamaica.
